In August, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) validated the vision and resulting standard of the New Distribution Capability (NDC) Program. It gave final approval to Resolution 787, the foundation document of NDC. This decision is a major milestone and demonstrates the importance of technical standards and their value to the travel sector. NDC is no longer a project out of a black box and airlines are well advised to start getting more familiar with the new technology.
The new technology allows for simplification and interoperability and altogether brings forward innovation within the travel sector. During the last months, the NDC program has been accepted more widely throughout the industry, and the focus is no longer solely on the data standard. In the near future, many other areas are likely to be covered by the ongoing project. Revenue Management, for example, is an area where experts see opportunities for effective change due to the NDC development.
